Rashes
Rashes are common in childhood and can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections, allergies, irritants, or underlying skin conditions. Here are some common types of rashes seen in childhood:
-
Diaper Rash: A common rash in infants, usually caused by prolonged exposure to wet diapers. It appears as red, irritated skin in the diaper area.
-
Cradle Cap: Common in newborns, cradle cap is characterized by greasy, yellowish scales on the scalp. It is not harmful and often resolves on its own.
-
Miliaria (Heat Rash): Small, red bumps that may appear on a baby's face, neck, or other areas due to blocked sweat ducts. Keeping the baby cool and dry can help prevent heat rash.
-
Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis): A chronic condition characterized by dry, itchy skin. Eczema can affect children of all ages and often presents as red, inflamed patches, especially on the face, hands, and elbows.
-
Contact Dermatitis: Red, itchy rash caused by contact with an irritant or allergen, such as certain soaps, lotions, or fabrics.
-
Impetigo: A bacterial skin infection that leads to the formation of red sores or blisters that burst and form a yellowish crust. It is highly contagious and common in children.
-
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease: Caused by a virus, this childhood illness results in red spots or sores on the hands, feet, and in the mouth. It may be accompanied by fever and general discomfort.
